Panhellenic Council Recruitment
WOMEN'S RECRUITMENT INFORMATION
Congratulations on your daughter’s decision to go through Formal Fall Membership Recruitment at Oklahoma State University. This will be a great week and a wonderful time for your daughter to meet new women on campus and learn more about herself. Below is a list of helpful hints that we feel are important for you to know before your daughter leaves for recruitment. Please pay close attention to dates and times – these are important to make the Recruitment Week run smoothly.
The dates of Formal Fall Membership Recruitment 2007 are:
August 6 –- Move into Residence Halls
August 7-10– Recruitment Events
August 11– Bid Day
Your daughter will be living in her permanent residence hall assignment for the week of recruitment. Those who plan to live off-campus will reside in their off-campus housing for recruitment. Off-campus women will have a designated meeting place to meet with their groups and recruitment counselors.
During recruitment, meals will be the responsibility of the participant. Students who have purchased a Residential Life meal plan will be able to dine at any of the on-campus dining facilities or they may charge meals to their bursar account. Off-campus women can purchase a small meal plan to use during recruitment or use cash in the dining facilities.
There will be an orientation for parents on Monday, August 6, in Wes Watkins CITD. A parent’s booklet will be sent to parents with more information on what to expect with recruitment. You will receive it later in late July after your daughter’s registration has been received.
Registration forms are located online and will be further explained in the Recruitment Information Booklet. The registration fee this year will be $100 and includes a T-shirt your daughter will wear on the second day of Recruitment.
The Recruitment Registration Deadline is Friday, July 13, 2007, at 5:00 p.m.
Bid Day is Saturday, August 11. This is the last day of recruitment – the day when one sorority will extend a formal invitation to your daughter. At noon of that day you will find out which sorority your daughter has received an invitation to join. We encourage you to meet your daughter at the chapter house. We ask that you proceed to the chapters as soon as possible, not only for traffic reasons but also to surprise your daughter!
Once your daughter has accepted her invitation to join, she will then be escorted by a few of the sorority’s members to the chapter house.
Each chapter has planned a reception to receive their new members and parents. The reception will begin upon the women’s arrival, between 12:45 p.m. and 1 p.m. There will be pictures taken, parents meetings, new member meetings and activities to foster new friendships. After the formal receptions, the members and alumnae who are excited to meet their new members have planned a variety of chapter activities. Some of the activities include cookouts, pool parties, picnics, etc. A few chapters may extend an invitation for their new members to spend the night in the chapter house on the 11th. However, this is optional. Your daughter may choose to return home or to spend the night in the Residence Halls. Recruitment is exhausting and everyone understands.
If your daughter is participating in the PLC Retreat, then she will be able to stay in her permanent assignment between the retreat and recruitment. Contact and make arrangements with the appropriate coordinator. There will be no charge.
Outside of the events there will be no communication between chapter members, alumnae and your daughter. There will be limited communication allowed between potential new members and their friends and family. Cell phone use will be limited to evenings only after events are concluded.
Often family and friends wish to send flowers or gifts on Bid Day. We will provide a list of Stillwater florists/gift shops that you may wish to call. To review this list, please click here. Simply give them the name of your daughter and they will handle the rest. The Office of Fraternity & Sorority Affairs will help the florists direct your order to the proper chapter house. The enclosed list also includes the names of other Stillwater merchants who offer sorority/fraternity insignia gift items; however, these businesses generally do not deliver Bid Day items but will have them ready for you to pick-up on Bid Day.
If plans change and your daughter decides not to come and participate in recruitment please call us as soon as possible at 405-744-6583. The deadline to receive a refund of the Recruitment Registration Fee is Friday, July 13, 2007.
Potential new members must attend all recruitment events to which they are invited.
We hope this answers some of your questions. If you need further information, please feel free to call (405-744-6583) or write the Office of Fraternity & Sorority Affairs, Panhellenic Council at 050 Student Union, Stillwater, OK 74078. You may also e-mail us at osurecruitment@yahoo.com.
