CLARIFICATION – DROPPING vs. WITHDRAWING ----- DEADLINES!

We use the term "drop a course" when a student formally exits from a single course in which he or she had been enrolled, assuming that he or she is still enrolled in at least one other course for the term.

We use the term "withdraw from the university" when a student exits from all courses in which he or she had been enrolled for the term. If a student has already completed a short course for the term, such as an eight-week orientation course, it is not possible for that student to withdraw because it is not possible to exit a course that has been completed. Instead, the student would need to drop each remaining course prior to the "drop" deadline listed below (April 4). If a student who has finished a course needs to leave the university and exit from all remaining courses after April 4 (drop deadline), then the student would need to file a late-drop petition with Academic Affairs. See the Academic Affairs website for details.

Please notice: If a student wishes to leave the university, a withdrawal is not possible if one or more courses for the term have already been completed.

Please check each student's schedule before deciding whether to recommend the withdrawal process or the drop process.

Spring 2008 Drop and Withdraw Deadlines:

Friday, April 4 (end of week 12)

Last day to drop a course with an automatic grade of "W."

No tuition refund.

Documentation required: Submit to the Registrar's Office a completed drop-and-add card signed by the student and the academic advisor.

Friday, April 4 (end of week 12)

Last day to withdraw from all courses with automatic grades of "W."

No tuition refund.

Documentation required: Submit to the Registrar's Office a completed withdrawal form.

Friday, April 18 (end of week 14)

Last day to withdraw from all courses with assigned grades of "W" or "F."

No tuition refund.

Documentation required: (1) A completed withdrawal form and (2) A withdrawal supplement form completed by the College Academic Services Director and signed by each instructor with grades of "W" or "F" assigned for each course.

Short courses follow different drop deadlines.
