Tax Workshops 2009
All foreign nationals who receive income in the U.S. must pay federal and state taxes. An estimate of your taxes is withheld from each pay check from OSU. After the end of the year, you must complete annual tax forms, which for some students will result in a refund of some of the tax that was withheld. These forms are due by April 15.
To assist international students at Oklahoma State University in filing their tax, Linda Dunbar from the ISS office conducts tax workshops from February to April 12 every year. During the workshops, we review the software ISS provides to help students prepare their federal tax forms. We also review the State of Oklahoma form, which must be completed on paper. Students may get a password before the workshop from the ISS office or by emailing Linda at linda.dunbar@okstate.edu.
These workshops are interactive and are sponsored by VITA for Internationals.
Please remember to bring Tax Forms W-2 and/or 1042-S and/or 1099, and your passport with your I-20.

tax form examples
Below are the links to the examples of the Oklahoma Form 511NR tax return. There is one for a single student from India, one for a married student from India, and one for students from countries other than India. The tax treaty from India is different from all the other treaties so that is why there are examples specifically for them. If you are a married student from India and your spouse is also a student and is working, you will each file your own tax return and you will each claim one exemption for yourself.
Remember that for students from any country, if you are married, your filing status is married.
These examples are available to use in the ISS office. You may sit in the ISS office to work on your tax return. Linda Dunbar, International Tax Coordinator, will review your tax returns for accuracy, if you like, but we are unable to complete them for you.
