More than 250 fraternity and sorority members will take the Seretean Center Concert Hall stage Feb. 22-25 to perform song and dance routines at Oklahoma State University’s annual Varsity Revue.
Varsity Revue is an OSU vocal stage performance where Greek pairings prepare choreographed shows at a competitive level to raise money and awareness for the United Way. The four shows are scheduled nightly at 7 p.m. with winners being announced following the Feb. 25 performance. Tickets for VR are $12 and are available to purchase at okstate.showclix.com.
In a twist from tradition, the pairings were randomly chosen this year. During the fall semester, the pairings tried out to be a part of the final VR show. Seven pairings were selected to perform in the show.
This year will provide a few changes in judging from past years. The judges criteria has been changed so that each song and dance during the performance will judged individually, rather than all the judges giving a score based on the entire 10 minute production. This is in an attempt to provide scores that are more true to the casts’ performance.
In addition to the judging criteria change, there will no longer be individual acts between the large cast acts. Instead, VR hosted a talent showcase on Feb. 8 called “United We Band.” The proceeds from that will be added to the grand total raised through VR.
Millie Van Horn, VR graduate teaching assistant, is looking forward to another successful and entertaining VR.
“The show has always been a great way for the Greek community to raise money for a great organization, while also providing an entertaining production for audiences” said Van Horn. “This year will be a continuation of the great tradition that is VR.”
Along with the performers, VR is made possible by the executive director, Grant McClendon, and co-assistant executive directors, Cara Greenwell and Hannah Winemiller, as well as a hard-working steering committee. Last year, the program raised $28,000, and this year’s goal is to raise $30,000 for the United Way.
This is the 89th year of OSU students serving others through their talents by participating in the show. Varsity Revue is sponsored by OSU’s Office of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs. An executive team and steering members organize and plan all aspects of VR. For more information about this year’s production, contact Millie Van Horn at email@example.com.
