Stuffing, Studying and Strategizing

Throughout the end of November and the beginning of December, you will be stuffing, studying and strategizing. Thanksgiving will take care of the stuffing, finals will take care of the studying and you will need to strategize to make sure the end of the semester goes well. Keep reading for tips to get you through the last month of the semester. It'll be busy!

Does anyone know how to study?Sometimes finals week can be stressful.

Get Comfy and Stay Warm

Let's be honest, there are going to be a lot of sweatpant days in the near future, and that's totally OK. There are two camps of thought when it comes to what you wear: 1) dress for sucess, and 2) dress comfortably. Do what's best for you. If you are studying in the Union all day, don't be afraid to throw on a pair of sweats and a comfy hoodie and curl up in your favorite chair. If you score better on exams when you're wearing a three-piece suit, go for it! We will definitely be opting for the comfort option, especially because it's been a cold fall so far.

It's a sweatpant kind of day. There is no judgment from us. Be as comfy as you want to.

Late Night Café

!!!FREE PANCAKES!!!

Yes, free pancakes. Late Night Café is many people's favorite traditions at OSU, and we love hosting it every semester. For anyone who hasn't enjoyed this wonderful program, it provides students free pancakes from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. every night from Dec. 10-13. Student Union Activities Board makes sure you have everything you need, from syrup and peanut butter to fountain drinks. The best part? Everything is free for students. Late Night Café is a great study break, so stop by!

Ge Comfy

We encourage naps. Sometimes, you need to grab a comfortable chair and take a power nap between study sessions, and that's absolutely OK. Our motto is "Life Happens at the Union," and we mean that. So, during the next few weeks, make yourself at home at the Union. But whatever you do, make sure you don't sleep through an exam.

Ensure a Healthy You

Keeping a healthy mind is important during the end of the semester. As final exams approach, stress levels can increase. We have resources available inside the building to help ensure your positive wellbeing. University Counseling Services, located on the third floor of the Union is available for any students. Stop by, or learn more here

The Reboot Center is also on the third floor of the building. Inside the Reboot Center, you can enjoy a quiet, inviting space for learning skills for calming mind and body. There is also a program for video-game responsiveness to stress physiology (e.g., images become more vivid; animations become more dynamic as relaxation increases). The Reboot Center is a great place to spend some time de-stressing. Learn more here.

Pete's Pet Posse

What's better than sitting down with a cute pup for a study break? Fortunately, Pete's Pet Posse is here to make that dream a reality. Pete's Pet Posse dogs make a lot of appearances in the Union during pre-finals and finals weeks. Many times, the dogs and their owner/handlers are stationed outside the University Store or in the Reboot Center on the third floor.

Food for Thought

Food, food and more food. That's how we feel around this time of the year. Thanksgiving, of course, marks the biggest food day of the year, but there's also Late Night Café (pancakes) in the Union during finals week, and there's plenty of studying to be done with study snacks, of course. It's important to keep an eye on your food intake, but it's also OK to enjoy some holiday treats or comfort foods when studying.

Find Your Study Space

You may have a few places on campus you love to study. Whether it's the library, your residence hall lounge or the Student Union, you have your go-to places. But, have you thought about the North Dining Facility? Yes, you read that correctly. North Dining is not only a good place to grab a bite to eat, it's also great to study in. The facility has plenty of comfortable chairs and booths to use to read, study or write that paper due next week. Plus, you can grab a cup of coffee or a quick snack! Sometimes it's great to study in a new spot because it allows you to clear your mind and be more productive. Try North Dining this finals week.

Finding the Right Balance

Sometimes you need a meal that makes you feel good. Sometimes your body needs a meal to make it feel good. There's a balance you need to find between comfort food and healthy food for a successful end to your semester. It's OK to indulge occasionally when the end-of-semester stress hits, just be sure to balance them with nutritious meals as well.

Comfort Food

From mac 'n cheese to pizza, there are plenty of places on campus to eat your favorite foods.

Healthy Options

There are a number of healthy options on campus. The busier you get, the harder it is to eat healthy, but our dining locations feature Choose Orange options. North Dining is a great place to go to get some brain food with a healthy spin. It's important to give your body the nutrients it needs when preparing for finals or the busy holiday season.  If you need one-on-one advice, make an appointment with our dietitian here.
